Taylor Swift revealed that she has written and recorded a new original song titled “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the soundtrack of Disney and Pixar’s upcoming animated film “Toy Story 5. ”  The announcement ends weeks of speculation fueled by a series of cryptic promotional clues, in which fans spent weeks deciphering Toy Story-themed countdowns, billboards and other hints tied to the project.

In an Instagram post detailing the collaboration, Swift expressed her lifelong affinity for the animated franchise, writing: “It’s a *Toy* Story 🤠 You knew it! My new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Disney and @pixar’s @toystory 5 will be yours on June 5th. I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right? You can pre-order now exclusively on my site and catch Toy Story 5 in theaters June 19th ☁☁☁☁☁

According to Disney, the song was written and produced by Swift and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. The track was inspired by the continuing story of Jessie, the cowgirl first introduced in Toy Story 2, and is described as drawing on country influences that recall Swift’s early musical roots.

Toy Story 5 , directed and written by Andrew Stanton, reunites longtime franchise stars including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The latest installment follows the toys as they confront new challenges posed by modern technology and a child’s growing attachment to electronic devices. Stanton noted that the creative team was deeply impressed by how Swift connected with the narrative. “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it,” Stanton remarked.

Fans will get their first chance to hear “I Knew It, I Knew You” later this week, with special CD editions featuring additional acoustic and piano versions also being offered through Swift’s website.
